Introduction
#20
The series of screenprints by Līga Spunde is dedicated to mental ecology and the impact of the environment on mental health and well-being. Today’s characteristic traits — anxiety and burnout — are influenced by the digital saturation to which our lives are increasingly subjected. Nature and everyday activities that draw inspiration from it become a digital detox practice necessary for survival, allowing us to relax our mind, body and soul.
The series was commissioned for the exhibition by the Latvian Centre for Contemporary Art “Decolonial Ecologies” curated by Ieva Astahovska at Riga Art Space.
Each print is unique and made from 35 layers of silkscreen printing to find the right place for every flower and leaf, likewise ikebana, the Japanese art of arranging flowers.
