About the artist
Sabīne Vernere (b. 1990) is an artist based in Riga, where she is a doctoral candidate at the Art Academy of Latvia and heads the academy’s experimental art space PILOT. She has garnered acclaim for her bright and expressive Indian ink paintings. Vernere focuses her investigative lens on bodily and sexual experiences that, instead of becoming the key topics of the investigation, serve merely as an extension of the working language. She holds an MA from the Painting Department of the Faculty of Visual Arts at the Art Academy of Latvia and has furthered her skills at the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb and the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp. Vernere has participated in exhibitions at Nida Artist Colony, Quartair in the Hague, Le Beffroi de Montrouge in Paris, the Art Building in Vrå, Centrul de Interes in Cluj-Napoca and Titanik in Turku. Her works belong to the collections of the VV Foundation and Zuzāns.
