Introduction
For quite a time, Sabīne Vernere has been curious about some unconscious human behaviours, like the fact that often a person who laughs would simultaneously be looking at another person they fancy the most out of the group. It fascinates her how the body is incapable of lying in these kinds of situations. Research shows that our instincts reach us first on a visceral level, telling us what we should know long before that information reaches consciousness. We all process things that our consciousness doesn’t even know about; it’s a sense of knowing that uses older structures of our brain. Unfortunately, today, people mostly rely only on what they see and are not used to trusting their intuitive feelings.
Sabīne Vernere created this painting by reflecting on these facts. Leg joints with eyes and feet as fuzzy nerve endings – to know, feel and see with the body.
